How does Apple group my accessories?

To keep things simple, Apple sorts every accessory into one of five broad categories, with anything that doesn't fit going into "Other":

- Lights — down lights, lamps, LED strips, and any other lighting

- Climate — thermostats, air conditioning, and blinds used for temperature control

- Security — door locks, gates, garage doors, and cameras

- Speakers & TVs — Apple TVs, HomePods, and other AirPlay-compatible speakers

- Water — taps, irrigation controllers, and other water-related accessories

- Other — switches, fans, outlets, and anything else

This is also how the "Accessories by type" list on the Status tab groups things.
